The Plot of the Episode
When the students reached Abbot High, the staff realized that the students were there to complete 100 hours of community service. They dumped 100 gallons of baby oil, 500 Paddy’s Pub T-shirts, and a Cybertruck in the Schuylkill River and got this punishment. However, the plot reminds us of the second season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia when the authorities gave Dee, Man, and Dennis the punishment of community service again, and they had to coach a basketball team of youngsters. Therefore, Charlie, lacked in reading which became obvious when he attended elementary school. The group approaches their time at Abbott Elementary with the same passion and silliness that made the program famous in that episode as they engage in the competitiveness of coaching.
Their Experience at Abbott Elementary
The school forced the students to go for volunteering. However, Mellisa figured out what they had been through and what they did. She also recognised them from a game where they got into a fight. She also called them lowlifes and asked them to show their criminal faces. However, Janine convinced the school to let them stay as what they did was just a misdemeanor and did not hurt anyone. Mac helps Ava with her principal responsibilities, Dee goes to Janine’s classroom, Frank helps out with Gregory’s garden, and Charlie fixes a vent in Jacob’s classroom. Furthermore, Dennis is more inclined to stay behind the camera as he is into filming.
The adult comedy
The episodes have given more adult humor this time rather than kid centric humor. They were always cautious about it but then they did it this time. It made their audience very happy as they enjoyed it alot.

Charlie’s story
Jacob noticed that Charlie was unable to read or say the words written on the board which concerned him. He brings him to Mellisa, and she suggests that he might be dyslexic like her. Nonetheless, it is not the case since he tells a kid that light is spelt L-I-Y-T-L. They take him to the library where they introduce him to Barbara. She takes up the challenge and turns it into a project as she was a teacher to adults. Charlie runs to the bathroom and hides claiming he is not illiterate. Later Barbara and Melissa talk to him and then make him try to read a book about birds. It helped him to sound out each word slowly.
Janine and Dee
As Penn alums, Dee and Janine hit it off immediately. Dee helps with marking, takes down the Christmas decorations Janine can’t reach, and enlists the students in a Benjamin Franklin cosplay. The atmosphere changes when Gregory appears, muscles rippling beneath his cardigan, looking for left-handed scissors. And Dee gets intrigued and decides to have a fling with Greg. Shocked that Dee is trying to get physical with her lover, Janine reluctantly describes their relationship with the hope Dee will reconsider. Furthermore, it only excited Dee more as the competition for a man is thrilling for her. Janine then rushes to the principal to ask to send the group back right away.
Conclusion
Volunteers is a fun, disorganized crossover episode between the two schools. It’s the chance for fans of both shows to see the problems that arise when a group of volunteers from It’s Always Sunny shows up at the school to do their community service hours. Between Charlie’s battle with literacy and Dee’s light-hearted competition with Janine over Gregory, the episode contains laughs as well as genuine and unexpected team ups. The balance between adult humour and character development is what keeps the show fresh and still, this crossover episode is a great and memorable addition to the series.
