ABC and OTS Award: Grants for Safer Communities

From 1st October 2024, The department of alcoholic beverage control (ABC), has started an initiative of granting an amount up to $50,000 to 20 local law enforcement agencies. Enforcement on holidays are started in order to support the Minor Decoy program, informed merchants preventing alcohol-related crime tendencies (IMPACT), the Shoulder Tap program, license education on alcohol and drug (LEAD) program. Moreover, these programs increase safety on Public roadways, by addressing alcohol-related harm in people. Eventually, the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), provided the funds.

However, the grant period is from 1st October 2024 through 31st August 2025. Moreover, the director of alcoholic beverage control, Joseph McCullough said that these Grants will increase the safety of people throughout California. The youth will get less access to alcohol which will result in their safety. Along with that, he also appealed to local law enforcement to help them in making this program a huge success in California. 

ABC and OTS Awards

The Department of alcoholic beverage control (ABC) gave a grant of $750,000 to Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Moreover, the California office of traffic safety, has the authority to grant the award. However, the only purpose of the National Highway Safety Administration is to educate teenagers. Meanwhile, drinking and driving is becoming very popular nowadays and normal people are facing the consequences. 

Furthermore, the way teenagers and young adults do a rough drive after drinking leads to many deaths and injuries. Moreover, the alcoholic beverage control department awarded mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD). However, through this funding, they will educate students and parents about the aftermath of drinking and driving. In addition to that, the law enforcement department is going to start various projects to educate people. On the other hand, this Initiative will educate the young ones about the dangerous outcome of underage drinking. Because of, driving under the influence, alcohol abuse, and binge drinking result in the loss of many lives.

Benefits of ABC and OTS Awards

In order to, train college-going students and to alert them about the risks of binge drinking and rough driving, resources of the grant will be used. Moreover, various training committees of college-age students will deliver a statewide presentation to parents and other youths. Later on, they will make parents understand how they should talk to their children about binge drinking. Furthermore, aiming at the prevention of drinking, a YouTube channel is going to be created through these resources. 

Criteria of funding 

The applicant has to go through certain criteria to get the grant from the Department of Alcoholic Beverages. Given below are some of the factors that need to be in consideration:

  • The department of alcoholic beverage control (ABC) will give funding based on previously awarded Grants. 
  • The Department of alcoholic beverage control (ABC) will make sure that granted funds will spread all over the state. 
  • During the term of the agreement, minor Decoy operations could be held by the Department of Alcoholic Beverages. 
  • The department of alcoholic beverage can also operate shoulder tap operations during the term of agreement. 
  • During the term of the agreement  the department of alcoholic beverages can also conduct an IMPACT inspection. 
  • The department of alcoholic preparation will also ensure that the operation is getting support from the local prosecutor.

Process of granting award

The Department of Alcoholic Beverage will take certain steps before processing the award. Here are some of the steps that the Department of Alcoholic Bridge will take to process the award:

1)The Department of Alcoholic Beverages reviews and ranks the letters submitted by the applicant. 

2) After that the director of the Alcoholic Bridge department makes a final funding decision. 

3)Then, the Office of Traffic Safety receives documents for approval of the final funding. 

4) The alcoholic beverage department then sends the selection letter to applicants. 

5)By this way, applicants get to know about the selection. 

6) Selected applicants get a Contract application from the alcoholic beverage department for signature. 

7) The Department of alcoholic beverage then signs a copy and sends it to the selected applicant. 

Training session 

The department of alcoholic beverage, organises a training sensation. Meanwhile, all the selected applicants need to attend the training session. They get all the information about the requirements for training by the department. However, this training session is mandatory for the selected applicants. 

Overtime Benefits 

The one who works solely on the project, and gets the benefits of paid overtime. Reimbursement of overtime on the project paid to the employee by the local agencies at the same rate which is being paid to other employees. Moreover, for non sworn personnel also overtime is reimbursed. However, on the basis of audit, management, and fiscal review the budget of the grant is decided.  The activity and objectivity of a project are directly related to the project’s cost. Meanwhile, the selected applicant must give a detailed estimate of the project. Furthermore, Employees’ salaries, overtime reimbursements, and employees other needs must be in the detailed estimate of the project.

Furthermore, enforcement programs and administering prevention are designed to educate youths and teenagers about underage drinking and alcohol abuse.  The employees of ABC are encouraged in order to license education on alcohol, drugs, and online training. However, to achieve higher compliance with alcoholic beverages laws these training classes are designed.
