Wordle, Wordle, Wordle! It really is amazing how many puzzles we have completed and how much more is left to solve. By now, we have solved 1,263 Wordles, but there are still approximately another 1,000 words of five letters to finish. Who knows what happens next? Perhaps the New York Times could decide to shuffle the words and start again or even start a six-letter version of Wordle. We’ll see in about three years! But for now, let’s get on with today’s challenge.
I had a better experience with today’s puzzle than I thought I would. My first guess was “CRATE,” which narrowed my options to 61 possible words. In hindsight, because there was only one green letter, ‘A,’ I had no idea of a second attempt. I put out with my second attempt, “BOINK, only to be equally unsuccessful since I still received one green box and one yellow box. From this point, I was really at a dead end without an inkling that there were only two words in the running. The only word that came to my mind was “SHAKY,” and it happened to be the correct answer!
Competitive Wordle Score
I am on a roll! In this game, I score points based on how fast I can guess the word. Guessing in three attempts gives me 1 point, and since I won against the bot today, who took four attempts, that adds another point to my score.
How To Play Competitive Wordle
Scoring: You score 3 points if you guess in one attempt, 2 points for two attempts, 1 point for three attempts, no points for four attempts, minus 1 point for five attempts, minus 2 points for six attempts, and minus 3 points if you fail to guess the word. In case you win against your opponent, you score an extra point. Ties award no points, and a loss incurs a-1-pointt penalty. You may choose to keep a running tally or begin anew each day. Fridays are a bit different in that they have double points applied both positively and negatively.
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “shaky” comes from the verb “shake,” which stems back to Old English “season,” meaning to move quickly or to vibrate. This term traces way back to Proto-Germanic “skakaną,” which signifies the sense of shaking or swinging. The adjective “shaky” appeared as far back as the 17th century to describe anything that was unstable or trembling.
