Today’s Connections Hints & Answers For December 02, 2024 (#540): I love the start of a new week! It feels like a fresh canvas just waiting to be painted. One of my favorite things about this time of year is the chocolate advent calendars. Each morning, I pop open a window and enjoy a little piece of chocolate. As a kid, I sometimes saved up the chocolates for a few days to have extra treats. If only I had known that saving and investing were important lessons, I might be in a better financial position today! Compound interest is a concept I wish I had understood back then.
Now, let’s talk about today’s game on the NYT Connections game. It’s a nice word puzzle that challenges its users to group words into categories. A new puzzle is released each day at midnight on the New York Times website or through its Games app. You get 16 words and have to sort them into four groups of four based on their connections. Sometimes it is a bit tricky because one can fit into more than one category.
The game has color-coded groups: yellow is usually the easiest, followed by green and blue, with purple being the most challenging. When you think you’ve found four words that go together, you select them and submit your guess. If you’re wrong, you lose a life. You can make four mistakes before the game ends, so choose wisely!

Today’s Connections Answers
Now, if you’re ready for the answers, here they are:
- Yellow group: Announce (BROADCAST, DECLARE, HERALD, TRUMPET)
- Blue group: Emblems embroidered on a polo shirt (CROCODILE, LAUREL, POLO PLAYER, SWOOSH).
- Green group: Items that utilize mallets (CARPENTRY, CROQUET, WHAC-A-MOLE, XYLOPHONE).
- Purple group: ____ fastener (ALLIGATOR, HAIR, PAPER, VIDEO).
I made some silly mistakes today! I thought alligator was right for one of the groups but mixed it up with crocodile instead of realizing it was actually the Lacoste logo that features a crocodile. That was an easy mix-up for me! The purple group was tricky too; I misclicked and included BROADCAST when I meant ALLIGATOR.
Playing Connections is always fun and challenging! It’s great to exercise your brain with these puzzles. If you didn’t get it right today, don’t worry; there’s always tomorrow for another chance to solve the puzzle.
By the way, I’ve been listening to The Darkness since I was young. Their Christmas song has been my ringtone every December for years now! It’s funny how music can stick with you through time like that.
