The Satire publication, The Onion won the bid in the bankruptcy auction for Alex Jones Infowars. On Thursday. The victims of families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting backed The Onion in the auction. Alex Jones owes almost $ 1.5 billion to the families of victims as he called the school shooting massacre a hoax. The shooting that occurred at the school took the lives of 20 children and 6 educators. Alex Jones accused the family of the victims of the shooting massacre saying that the incident was fake and the families were acting to support gun control. The supporters of Alex Jones believed his statements and harassed the families of victims of the shooting massacre.

Who owns Onion

Onion is a satire publication based in Chicago. Jeff Lawson is the current chairman and owner of The Onion. As per Onion’s website, Ben Collins is the chief executive officer. The parent company of The Onion is Global Tetrahedron, Bryce P. Tetraeder is the CEO of the parent company of The Onion.

Infowars is owned by Alex Jones. The parent company of Infowars is Free Speech Systems. Infowars is a right-wing conspiracy theory website founded in 1999 by Alex Jones. The online media platform company Infowars also has made other false claims in the past. Alex Jones has previously claimed that the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington were staged.

About the auction

Sealed bids for the private auction of Alex Jones Inowars were open on Wednesday and the supporters and critics of Alex Jones expressed interest to buy Infowars in the auction that took place on Thursday. The sale of Infowars includes Alex Jones’s studio and equipment, domain names, customer lists, and his social media accounts. The Onion is now able to acquire all intellectual property of Infowars by Alex Jones.

The bankruptcy auction allowed The Onion to buy Infowars by Alex Jones, the financial agreements are yet to be announced to the public. The auction is under approval by the US bankruptcy judge of Houston. The US bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez is in charge of the ongoing Infowars bankruptcy. He has stated that he has concerns about the transparency of the auction. In 2022 Alex Jones filed for bankruptcy protection as the court ordered Jones to pay $1.5 billion as he defamed the families of the victims of the  Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Jones was forced to auction his assets as he was unable to pay the families according to the judgment from the court.

Future of Infowars

Infowars, a company owned by Alex Jones, peddled conspiracies to the audience for decades. As the Onion buys Infowars, it has plans to relaunch Infowars as a parody. The Onion, a parody website often presents caricatures of politicians. As per reports Onion is aiming to relaunch the Infowars website in January 2025. The website of Infowars previously owned by Alex Jones is currently shut down.
