Gayle King Hosts SiriusXM’s Town Hall With “The Color Purple” Cast, Director

Gayle King sat down with Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks and Blitz Bazawule for a SiriusXM Town Hall special to discuss their upcoming film “The Color Purple.”

During the conversation, in front of a studio audience, Taraji P. Henson opened up to Gayle King that, when it comes to equity and pay in the entertainment business, right now “the math ain’t mathin'” and it has her questioning the future of her acting career. Taraji P. Henson getting emotional while discussing, saying “I’m just tired of working so hard, being gracious at what I do, getting paid a fraction of the cost. I’m tired of my sisters saying the same thing over and over, you get tired….”

Taraji P. Henson also telling Gayle King that she was intimidated by her musical costars on “The Color Purple.” Danielle Brooks speaking about how she felt the permission from Blitz and Oprah to make the role her own “she allowed me to be the cobbler of my own shoe, that’s what I feel,” she said.
