Washington, D.C. — Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee, under the leadership of Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), voted to issue subpoenas for Harlan Crow and Leonard Leo related to an ethics probe of Supreme Court justices. In response, Devon Ombres, senior director for Courts and Legal Policy at the Center for American Progress, issued the following statement:

“These subpoenas show the Senate is serious about shining a light on disturbing ethics scandals that have tainted the Supreme Court and undermined its authority. Holding people like Leonard Leo and billionaires like Harlan Crow accountable is necessary to restore faith in American institutions. Sen. Durbin and the Senate Judiciary Committee have taken an important step in upholding the rule of law.”
