In Atlanta, activists continue the fight against Cop City, pushing for a ballot referendum that would decide the fate of the police training facility.
Despite the opposition of 400 residents who voiced their concerns at a recent City Council meeting, city officials ignored their calls and approved $31 million in public funding for the facility, which has an estimated total cost of $90 million.
In nearby Fulton County, officials say that they have approved a different, slightly smaller training facility for police, costing $15 million.
Activists continue to insist that the training facility in Atlanta is much more than just replacing outdated training facilities in the area, but is a reaction to the mass movements of 2020 against police terror, and an effort to further militarize police and train them in tactics to crush mass movements.
