Will Georgians really elect the man who just said, “This erection is about the people” to the U.S. Senate next week?
During a FOX interview, Herschel Walker was propped up by the presence of Republican handlers Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham when he made the above amusing faux pas. It is not just his erection\election gaffe, Walker’s entire candidacy has been a total comedy of errors.
The candidacy of Walker is another example of the Republican Party digging deep into the gutter if it allows them to cling on to power.
If Republicans really cared about America, they would not be supporting a serial-lying babbling buffoon like Walker. They certainly do not really expect Walker to get any significant support from Black Georgians. But Walker is the kind of Stepin Fetchit clown racist white Republican voters will have no problem supporting if it gives Republicans more influence in Congress. Walker is nothing more than a high-profile Black GOP puppet.
Republicans are again proving that power—at any cost—is all they really care about. Walker’s campaign has been one of repeated blunders, not to mention mentally deranged comments.
For example, back in July, at a GOP event, while railing against the Green New Deal legislation proposal, Walker said this: “Since we don’t control the air, our good air decided to float over to China’s bad air, so when China gets our good air, their bad air got to move. So it moves over to our good air space. Then, now, we got we to clean that back up.”
Huh? Say what?
Usually when someone, of presumably sound mind, says something this unhinged we often question their sobriety. Were they drunk? Under the influence?
Troublingly, this is clearly not the case with Walker. One month before saying that Walker said this, “No matter how much money we put into controlling our air, it goes over to China or to somewhere else, and it messes up. All of a sudden, it comes back over here.”
This is the person Republicans want in the U.S. Senate representing Georgia? Is this they best Republicans can do in terms of finding Black people to run under their banner?
The Republican Party is a sad degeneration from what it once was. True, they ceased to be the party of Lincoln a long time ago. The country should be worrying about the GOP, especially since the Jan. 6 coup attempt, because Republicans are now firmly the party of racism, and violent white supremacy, under Donald Trump’s tutelage.
Even in the 90’s, the Republican Party still had some integrity. Back then, Republicans had another Black former football player in their ranks: J.C. Watts. But to compare Walker to Watts would be insulting. Watts was not the kind of cringe-worthy embarrassment that Walker represents where foolishness constantly flows from his mouth.
But Walker’s idiocy and simple-mindedness is not the only thing that should trouble Georgia voters as they head to the polls. Walker’s apparent lies and hypocrisy are equally disconcerting.
Here are some of Walker’s apparent lies.
Walker claimed he graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in criminal justice. But under scrutiny he admitted he did not graduate.
Walker also said he was a former police officer and FBI agent. But the FBI disputed that assertion and Walker was only made an “honorary” police officer by law enforcement officials in Cobb County, Georgia.
Walker bragged about being in the military during an interview with Black media outlet Rolling Out. Walker was never in the military, although he was a spokesperson for a company that runs a mental health program for veterans.
But Hershel Walker’s worse lies maybe those involving how many children he has fathered—and the believable allegations by those women who said he pressured them into having abortions. Here is where the hypocrisy of Walker, and Republicans, should be seriously examined.
Walker has publicly stated his anti-abortion stance, with no exceptions. And yet he apparently paid for at least two ex-girlfriends to have abortions—including one who said he asked her to abort two separate pregnancies. Important evidence, including a receipt for one abortion, supplied by the first of these women, was authenticated.
Then there are the allegations about Walker’s violent tendencies.
Walker’s ex-wife Cindy DeAngelis Grossman said he once told her, “I’m going to blow your fucking brains out.” She also said during their marriage he would threaten her with knives. After Grossman divorced him, Walker allegedly threatened to shoot Grossman’s sister and new boyfriend. And last month, Walker’s son, Christian, said Walker threatened to kill him and his mother.
Another ex-girlfriend, Myka Dean, in 2012, filed a police report in Texas (where Walker has been living for years, before his GOP recruitment to run against Warnock) that Walker threatened to “blow her head off” when she tried to end their relationship. Ms. Dean, and her parents, had been business partners with Walker.
But does any of this matter to power-hungry Republican political leaders?
Why should it? Aren’t’ these the same Republicans who voted to acquit Donald Trump, during his second impeachment trial, even after he attempted to overthrow the legitimate government of the United States on Jan. 6, 2021?
The absurdity of the time is when broadcast media punditry questions why there was no “red wave” for Republicans on Nov. 8. The real question is: what kind of Americans, besides white supremacist types, are still supporting this Trumpian Republican Party that tried to overthrow American democracy—and are still planning to do so?
During Trump’s time in office, Republicans have proven repeatedly that they put party power before country. Their push to insert Walker into the U.S. Senate is another example of this.
Hopefully, Georgians will vote like this runoff erection, sorry I mean election, matters and reject the clownish candidacy of Herschel Walker by voting for Sen. Raphael Warnock.
