The New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI) has opened an investigation into the death of Janet Jordan, who died on March 14, 2022 after being shot apparently inside her home. Rochester Police Sgt. Melvin Williams, 44, who was named as a “person of interest” in Jordan’s death, was found dead, the same day, from a self-inflicted gunshot–not long after he became a suspect in Jordan’s killing.

The New York Attorney General’s Office, in a statement regarding their investigation into Jordan’s death, said:

“On the morning of March 14, 2022, Ms. Jordan was found dead in her residence on Wetmore Park in Rochester. OSI is conducting an investigation to determine whether her death, by gunshot, was caused by a member of the Rochester Police Department who was found dead later that day by self-inflicted gunshot.”

Jordan worked as a dispatch trainer for 11 years with the Rochester’s Emergency Communications Department. Williams was reportedly a 16-year veteran of the police department. Some have complained that the Rochester Police Department have not released a photograph of Sgt. Williams–and is being tight-lipped about the case.

Janet Jordan is survived by her husband.
