Opening statements started today in the road rage murder case of a Black man charged with killing a white Milwaukee immigration lawyer.

Theodore Edgecomb is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the September, 22nd 2020 killing of Jason Cleereman.

Edgecomb is pleading self-defense and the case is being compared by some to the Kyle Rittenhouse trial. In fact Edgecomb’s defense team has said they will use John D. Black, a law enforcement expert who testified in the Rittenhouse trial.

Edgecomb killed Cleereman after Cleerman attempted to confront Edgecomb, during a road rage incident.

Edgecom alleges that Cleerman hurled racial epithets at him after the car the lawyer was in, driven by his wife, allegedly nearly struck Edgecomb, who was riding a bike. Cleerman’s wife was reportedly trying to quickly gain a parking spot.

According to Edgecomb, after Cleerman repeatedly used racist language, he punched him in the face and took off on his bicycle. Cleerman and his wife then followed Edgecomb in their car.

In a released video, the Cleerman’s car is shown following Edgecomb, pulling up to a sidewalk, and then Cleerman is seen chasing after Edgecomb–who then shots Cleerman to death.
