Only in America can the killer of innocent civilians be celebrated like a rock star and given a standing ovation–as white vigilante killer Kyle Rittenhouse was Monday, at the conservative Turning Point USA’s America Fest in Phoenix, Arizona.
Of course, such a killer would have to be white.
If Kyle Rittenhouse was a Black man none of the MAGA faithful would be rolling out the red carpet for him, as they are doing now for the killer of Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum. Moreover, no Black man would have been allowed, by police, after taking the lives of two people, to go home. That’s assuming he wasn’t shot dead in the first place.
The conservative celebration of white vigilantes, like Rittenhouse, means we will witness more white males taking up guns (while screaming about their Second Amendment rights) to kill innocent people. Black Americans, in particular, must take the current climate of white vigilantism with the utmost seriousness.
It not just the white vigilantism that was evident during Rittenhouse killing of Huber and Rosenbaum, or in the murder of Ahmaud Arbery by murderers Travis and Gregory McMichael and William “Roddie” Bryan that should concern us.
The Jan. 6th attempt to overthrow the U.S. Congress, and the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris White House, is also a sign of this reemerging racist white vigilantism that harkens back to the Jim Crow lynching era–during which, the killing of Black people was the most favorite pastime for many white Americans.
The “make America great again” terrorists are yearning for the nostalgia of that time when being white meant being right, always. MAGA America clearly wants to take us back to those days. Too much change is happening for these regressive right-wing white supremacists.
As we head into 2022–and the one year anniversary of the Jan 6th coup attempt–we must all prepare ourselves for more white vigilantism–and the coming next civil war in America. Or, has it already started?
