On the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act the People’s Organization For Progress (POP) will have a press conference to call for protection and strengthening of voting rights on Friday, August 6, 2021, 11:00 am at the Rodino Federal Building, 970 Broad Street, Newark, NJ.
Friday will mark the 56th anniversary of the signing into law of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Since that time the it has been gutted by the U.S. Supreme Court at the national level and undermined at the state and local levels.
“The purpose of the press conference is to draw attention to the attacks on our voting rights, condemn voter suppression, and to demand restoration of the Voting Rights Act and passage of current voting rights legislation,” stated Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People’s Organization For Progress.
Among the speakers will be representatives of grassroots organizations including leaders of the People’s Organization For Progress.
