The Riverside Church, 490 Riverside Drive, between120th -121st Streets will be holding its 17th Annual Career Day, Saturday, February 2, 2008, from 9:00 am – 3:30pm. This year’s theme, “My Passion, My Purpose, My Future,� will offer over 30 workshops for youth, youth mentors, parents and guardians.
The Riverside Church, 490 Riverside Drive, between120th -121st Streets will be holding its 17th Annual Career Day, Saturday, February 2, 2008, from 9:00 am – 3:30pm. This year’s theme, “My Passion, My Purpose, My Future,” will offer over 30 workshops for youth, youth mentors, parents and guardians. More than 20 national and local college representatives will be available to discuss college opportunities at the College Fair component of the event.
There will also be live entertainment for teens. Christopher Michael Jones, former Hip-Hop and R&B music producer who produced multi-platinum recording artists Nas, Shaquille O’Neal, Toni Braxton, other mega-stars and author of “What to Expect When You’re Accepted to College,” will make a presentation to the youths. Other presenters wll include Vibe founding staff member and senior writer, Kevin Powell, who interviewed the late Tupac Shakur, among other hip-hop icons for the magazine’s profiles. Lucinda Cross, CEO of Virtual Lucinda will discuss “Becoming and Entrepreneur,” and Dana Harris, Founder of Success Seminars which help young people build leadership skills during workshops that include “Etiquette Boot Camp for the Hip-Hop Generation.” Harris’ workshops get to the heart of why being a “lady” or a “gentleman” makes a difference in professional and social life. It’s not just a “listen only” experience. Participants will learn new skills and then put what they learn into practice.
Workshops will include, “Careers in Radio, TV, Film, Internet, Interactive Media,” “Careers in Sports Entertainment,” “Savor the Flavor”– all about careers in the culinary arts, “Becoming an Entrepreneur,” “Get the Internship of Your Life,” “How to Finance Your Child’s College Education,” “Online Career Exploration.” Workshops on careers in Architecture, Law, Medicine, Computers, Music, Publishing, Teaching, the Ministry, and even Zoology will be presented. Lunch will be served.
