Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States of America and Kamala Harris was sworn in as the 49th Vice-President of the Inited States of America.
The Lincoln Project today released the following statement congratulating President Biden and Vice President Harris on their inauguration:
“As the sun rose over the dome of the U.S. Capitol today, bathing it in a warm, amber glow, it was the dawning of a new day in America’s short history–the end of the darkness and fear that has enshrouded our nation the past four years and in its place, the promise of hope.
“Our country, the bedrock of democracy around the world, withstood its most difficult test in more than a century. While battered and weathered, the resiliency of our people has proven yet again why America is the greatest country in the world.
“We are once again led by people we can be proud of. President Biden is a good and decent man who seeks and promotes truth, unity, and the rule of law. He is a man of faith who values family and togetherness.
“Vice President Harris knows first hand the struggles women have faced and continue to face in our society. Representation matters and for the first time in history, women have a seat at the most powerful table in the world.
“Even as Joe Biden is sworn in as the 46th President of the United States, we know the path before him is not an easy one. He has inherited a country in crisis, where millions of Americans have been lied to and gaslit until the lines separating reality and fantasy were blurred. He will lead a nation divided by hyperpartisanship and racial tensions. He faces a global pandemic that has already taken more than 400,000 American lives and was allowed to grow out of control by his predecessor. He will have to steer a nation under economic crisis, where millions are out of work and face eviction. He will be challenged by lawless conspiracy theorists who do not believe in science, truth, or peace.
“To be successful, President Biden and Vice President Harris will have to focus on repairing the tattered relationships with our foreign allies. They will have to govern in a manner that restores hope and confidence in our executive branch. They must work across partisan lines to unify and begin to heal our people.
“It will take time to undo the damage caused by the previous administration, but we firmly believe President Biden and Vice President Harris are up to the task. We congratulate them on this momentous, historic day. They have our full support and encouragement as they take the reins and trudge forward toward their calling to form a more perfect union.”
