The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action today launched the People’s Transition Memo, a petition demanding that President-elect Joe Biden fight for transformative policy changes that will uplift and empower Black, Brown, Indigenous, Asian, and Latinx communities that have been underrepresented for far too long.

CPD Action and affiliates across the country worked to get these communities out in support of Biden at historic numbers not just to defeat Trump but to ensure we set a new progressive direction for the nation.

The People’s Transition Memo addresses systemic abuses that must be reformed to create a new path for our country after four years of the Trump administration’s racism, misogyny, xenophobia and regressive policies that have worsened inequalities in our communities.

To ensure our communities thrive, even in the midst of a pandemic, the petition demands:

  • That every person is guaranteed a voice in our government and the government represents the will of the people
  • Decisive and immediate action to dismantle structural racism, end police violence against Black and Brown people and create equal opportunities in all aspects of life for communities of color
  • Adequate and equitable education for all
  • Respect and dignity for all immigrant communities
  • Equal and universal access to quality healthcare
  • Economic justice during the pandemic and beyond

CPD Action calls on individuals from across the country who support a just and fair democracy to sign on in support of the People’s Transition Memo, which will be delivered to the Biden Administration after the inauguration.

“Democracy isn’t just about an election. We have to keep organizing and turning out for the future we want to build for our communities and families,” said Jennifer Epps-Addison, co-executive director and network president of CPD Action. “These are the demands of the people who showed up in record numbers for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and sent them to the White House. We have been fighting for a long time to guarantee health care for all, for humane immigration policies, for transformation of our criminal legal system, for a country where we all have the freedom to thrive— and now the incoming administration must work to implement this change. We will not go back to business as usual.”

CPD Action has been on the frontlines fighting for access to quality healthcare, education, housing, immigrant rights, worker rights, and racial and economic justice. From the day Donald Trump was elected president, CPD Action organized and mobilized Black and Latinx voters, both in key swing states and nationwide, to vote for Joe Biden. Now, the People’s Transition Memo is Biden’s mandate to implement transformative policies that address our systemic inequities, create opportunities for all people and keep us healthy and safe.

The memo states: Our nation is at an inflection point. The past four years of the Trump administration have been consumed by inhumane, harsh policies, utter disregard for democratic principles and disastrous responses to every crisis we have faced. Our communities came together not only to repudiate the atrocities of the Trump administration but to implement an entirely new vision for our country. We cannot go back to business as usual. This is our opportunity to shape the future we know is possible. Read the memo.

Center For Popular Democracy Action will deliver the memo along with signatures to the Biden administration following the January 20th inauguration.
