Maurice Gordon, yet another unarmed innocent Black man murdered by trigger-happy policing.

The family of the New York man who was shot and killed by a New Jersey State Police trooper Memorial Day weekend is demanding more information about his death.

Maurice Gordon, 28, of Poughkeepsie, was pulled over by state police along the Garden State Parkway in Bass River the morning of May 23 when he was shot and killed by the state trooper, according to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.

The attorney general’s office, who is investigating the incident, has not released any more information in the days since identifying Gordon as the victim.

Attorney for Gordon and his family William O. Wagstaff, III, said Saturday after seeing only a limited portion of police video of the incident on Monday, he has more questions than answers.

“As an initial matter, when you have family that is grieving, have a son that is killed unexpectedly by a police officer, you want to know the name of the killer, whether (Gordon) died on side of the road, in ambulance or at the hospital, whether there were first aid efforts. Things that are reasonable,” Wagstaff said in a phone interview.

“It just doesn’t pass the smell test when you say you’re not releasing that information,” he added.

According to Wagstaff, Gordon, who is Black, was unarmed when he was shot by a white trooper multiple times. The attorney said the state trooper handcuffed Gordon after shooting him.
