Education: WeIntervene Hosts “4th Annual Celebration of School Counselors kicking off National School Counseling Week!”

In honor of National School Counseling Week (Feb. 4th-8th), We Intervene is hosting the “4th Annual Celebration of School Counselors kicking off National School Counseling Week!” on January 31, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at St. Francis College in Brooklyn. 

The theme of the event is “School Counselors: Providing Lessons for Life.” 

The event, which is open to school counselors, school personnel, and community members, is focused on appreciating school counselors and thanking them for all of the life-changing work they do for New York City’s youth. Event activities include networking, gift exchange and speeches from industry leaders. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.

Natasha Green, the founder of educational resource start-up WeIntervene, is organizing the “4th Annual Celebration of School Counselors kicking off National School Counseling Week!” because of her commitment to education and student success.

“As a previous Dean of Discipline and math teacher at DeWitt Clinton High School, I worked closely with school counselors to ensure all students received the resources they needed to have successful academic and personal lives,” Green said. “It’s my honor to host an event that celebrates the work our school counselors do for our city’s children and for the future of New York City.”

Each school counselor attendee will receive a Thank You Gift Bag with a thank you card, special gifts from sponsors and American School Counselor Association bookmarks, pencils, and stickers. 

Keynote speakers for “4th Annual Celebration of School Counselors kicking off National School Counseling Week!” will include Chapter Leader Rosemarie Thompson from the Guidance Counselors Chapter of the United Federation of Teachers, Executive Director Gillian Smith from NYC DOE Office of Safety and Youth Development, Hosea Givan a School Counselor at P.S. 463 and the Executive Producer of Give Back and Assistant Professor Ian Levy Assistant at Manhattan College who was the 2016 NY State School Counselor of the Year recently co-authored “Remixing the School Counselor’s Tool Kit: Hip-Hop Spoken Word Therapy and YPAR”.

The “4th Annual Celebration of School Counselors kicking off National School Counseling Week!” is hosted by We Intervene and is sponsored by youth development service Year Up, mobile archery unit Hidden Gems Archery, athletic and educational nonprofit Hidden Gems Inc., non-partisan political engagement group Petition Party, youth coding program We Build Black, world-renowned speaker and empowerment group EricThomas & Associates LLC, youth technical development nonprofit The Knowledge House, children’s advocacy group Citizens’ Committee for Children, STEM program group STEM from Dance,  and higher educational institution St. Francis College.
