Two men pretending to be NYPD officers attempted to kidnap a man at a Long Island City car dealership back in December and now the police believe another man may know who the two men are.

The incident unfolded at the dealership last month, Dec. 12th around 9:50 a.m. when two unknown men walked inside of the Hyundai of Long Island City dealership, located at 34-54 44th Street, and approached the victim—a 28-year-old man who was waiting to have his car serviced. Police did not say if the victim knew his attackers or not.

The victim was pepper sprayed and handcuffed by the two unidentified men pretending to be cops as they attempted to remove him from the car dealership. The victim managed to fight them off, and the two men fled from the scene in a gray or silver Dodge Caravan, traveling Westbound on Northern Boulevard.

The victim was not seriously injured.

Police say that Jose Santiago-Cruz may have known who the two police impersonators are and are now looking to question him. He has not been seen since the incident.

He is described as a Hispanic man with dark hair, brown eyes, standing 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
