Mr. Eddie Latson of Midwood Ambulance Service was a big hit at the festival as kids and adults swarmed his display table anticipating their chance to get a hands-on CPR lesson. Mr. Latson came ready for action, fully equipped with a mannequin for the subjects to practice on and many other intriguing CPR essentials. Midwood Ambulance Services went all out for the kids, too. They gave out their own brightly designed children’s interactive coloring books; one entitled, Let’s Learn About Ambulances With Timmy the Dinosaur and Let’s Learn About Emergency First Aid, which teaches what to do in an emergency, how to call for help, how to treat burns, sudden illness, cuts, scrapes and bruises, what to do for a knocked out tooth, poisonings, insect stings, animal bites sprains, strains broken arms or legs, unconsciousness, choking of an infant, choking child, choking adult and more. The interactive coloring and activities books are brilliantly put together in engaging ways for the children complete with fun and interesting narratives easy, for children to read but challenging enough for inquisitive young minds. The activities book includes connect-the-dots, cool mazes, Q&As, puzzles and lots of fun pages to color all with a lesson on how to help yourself and others. They even gave out cool little sturdy red plastic pack-and-go first aid kits. Midwood Ambulance has been serving New York City since 1956.

New York Life was present educate the community on the different types of life insurance, which many of us are reluctant to pursue for many reasons, which is a great topic for future BSN articles.
The face painting clown was also a big hit as children swarmed the table waiting for their turn.
NYPD came out bring information on how to sign up and handing out literature on the benefits of joining the police force.
Retired Lt. Bob Pultorak of the Fire Safety Unit in Fort Totten came all the way from Bayside, Queens to give a vital presentation on how to exit from a fire, heat & smoke crawl, touching hot doors and exit from windows last.  Lt. Pultorak served 33 years in the New York City Fire Department. Still duty inclined, Lt. Pultorak relentlessly travels to events throughout the City to keep fire safety awareness alive in our communities. Lt. Pultorak gave out cool Fire Safety coloring books to the kids and over 100 smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms to the Bed Stuy community that day.
Another hit at the fellowship extravaganza was Joe, a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist, who spread lots of TLC on the grill with chicken and ribs and a down home buffet style feast, complete with fried fish, macaroni and cheese, peas and rice, tossed salad and other goodies.
Thanks to Mt. Carmel’s own Sharmaine Byrd-Bovaine, Events Chairperson, Deaconess Ruby Moses, Chairperson, Lorraine Brown and many more from the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church family, this blessed day of fellowship was presented to the community, free of charge – with no strings attached for the purpose of bringing the community closer together in unity. It was a great day for everybody who attended.
Mt. Carmel’s next event will happen September 30th of this year when they will have a “family reunionâ€? of sorts. Mt. Carmel wants to bring back all the members and visitors who have ever set foot in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, for a big warm welcome home family day festival. The gathering will take place at the same location on Quincy Street between Malcolm X Boulevard and Stuyvesant Street in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York.
Mt. Carmel Baptist Church has been serving God and the community at large for 80 years. The church was founded by Dr. V. Simpson Turner, Sr., who is still Pastor to this day. On a regular basis, Mt. Carmel works hard to empower the community by offering an incredible literacy program called Sing Spell to participants from age 4 to 104+. The Mt. Carmel Sing Spell program, teaches the 3 r’s (reading, writing and “‘rithmetic”) and singing to those who want to learn, brush up or just want to be a part of a fun and stimulating program.
Mt. Carmel’s Inner Fellowship Information Fair is an excellent model that churches and community organizations can emulate to implement successful events for the purpose of promoting unity, love and caring for our neighbors.
