Gen Art is a NY based organization focused on showcasing emerging talents. Famous names such as Zac Posen, Chaiken, Obedient Sons, Michelle Mason, Louis Verdad, Shoshanna are sample of past designers the organization has helped establish in the minds of the fashion industry and public.
Some noteworthy emerging fashion labels showed strong signs as the next big names in fashion during the Gen Art Fresh Faces in Fashion, NY Spring 2006:
Rodebjer: With the use of silk crepe and silk printed chiffon, Swedish native Carin Rodebjer presented a collection with heavy draping intertwined with nordic simplicity and the carefree movements of a teenager.
London based Martin Anderson was about play and portions. His menswear was functional through his use and mixture of volume and tight silhouettes with classic white shirts.
Beckerman: Canadian born but NY based sisters demonstrated some real creativity and talent. The use of details in very unique ways made for a very fresh, new and fluid movement on the runway.
Sacque Suit: Fortunate to have worn the hat of former Senior Editor of DNR Magazine and now as a menswear designer, Thomas Cunningham “gets it when it comes to menswear. His comfortable ready to wear collection combined short silhouette/tailored jackets reminiscent of the 1800s with modern masculinity or what he coins, the “new American fit.
Accessory
Angie Keefer: Unorthodox but elegant, Angie Keefer’s handbags are a must have. High quality Italian leather combined with recycled denim, sterling silver, sticks and very detailed lining makes for a truly fashion forward and unique take on handbags.
