LIVE NATION PRESENTS DAVE CHAPPELLE. A 10TH SHOW ON JUNE 27TH HAS JUST BEEN ADDED TO HIS
RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL RUN
Madison Square Garden Entertainment (MSGE) announced today that — with 50,000 tickets sold — Dave Chappelle has sold out an unprecedented nine consecutive comedy performances at Radio City Music Hall, and is adding a 10th show.
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of “Dave Chappelle’s Block Party,” for four select shows, Chappelle will combine his stand-up comedy with appearance by different musical guests each night, including: Nas, The Roots, Erykah Badu, Busta Rhymes, Janelle Monae, and DJ Premier.
Each musical guest will perform with a full orchestra to make those shows a fully-blended comedy and concert experience. Five consecutive comedy shows and four music and comedy shows make up the Radio City Music Hall run for Dave Chappelle starting June 18th through June 27th. Tickets for the newly added show on June 27th went on sale June 19th at 5:00PM EST.
“For the first time in over 10 years in New York City, the Great Stage at Radio City Music Hall is thrilled to be hosting one of the most talked about comedians of all time,” said Bob Shea, executive vice president, Bookings, MSG Entertainment. “Dave Chappelle is a legendary performer and has proven this by selling out an unprecedented nine shows, and creating such high demand, that we’ve added a tenth show to his run. During the last nights of his engagement, we are delighted to offer fans the one-of-a-kind experience to witness Chappelle expertly combining his stand up comedy routine with some of his favorite musical acts, and an orchestra.”
Dave Chappelle’s engagement at Radio City Music Hall marks his first announced performances in New York City in over 10 years. This year is the 10th anniversary of his concert documentary, “Dave Chappelle’s Block Party,” filmed during the summer of 2004 in the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY. The film features several hip-hop and musical artists performing at a block party thrown by the comedian, including Erykah Badu and The Roots. The film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival that following year.
In addition, the June 23rd appearance that features Nas will celebrate the 20-year anniversary of the artist’s debut album Illmatic with Nas performing cuts from that album during his performance. Nas has recently released an album, Illmatic XX, which celebrates this anniversary, as well as a feature length documentary about the album, called Time is Illmatic, which opened at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival and will be in U.S. theaters in October.
Dave Chappelle is a comedian and actor and has made appearances in films such as Robin Hood: Men in Tights, the Nutty Professor, Half Baked, You’ve Got Mail, and Undercover Brother. In 2003, Chappelle hosted his own show on Comedy Central, Chappelle’s Show, which received two Emmy Award nominations. Chappelle has also been awarded two NAMIC Vision Awards and has been nominated for two NAACP Image Awards and two Teen Choice Awards. Comedy Central ranks Chappelle as Number 43 of “100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time” and Esquire Magazine has called him “the comic genius of America.”
