Milwaukee Flooding 2025: Record Rainfall Causes Damage

Milwaukee already endured the havoc created by the two-day record-breaking rainfall on the weekend in Wisconsin. However, this rain didn’t just wet the ground and seep through the drainage system updated by the city. The 14 inches of rain in Wisconsin started to evaporate on Monday after destroying a considerable area with the floodwater. Moreover, 14 inches of rain was enough to put pressure on the rivers and cause a flood, as you heard. The homes were cut off from electricity due to the unbeatable flow of river water, vehicles floated above the flow, and basements were flooded. This was the extent of the destruction, which you can imagine with the upper debris.

Rainfall warnings persist on Monday?

Milwaukee Flooding 2025 As we know, the storm began in the afternoon of Saturday and ended in the morning of Sunday; the aftermath is still visible. Fortunately, no fatalities were found by the rescue team till Monday morning, as lost loved ones sink your heart. The authorities have still not let go of the flood warnings, due to the anticipated damage awaiting the city. Several roads have been closed, which is way more than the weekend. Other than Milwaukee, several regions of Waukesha and Ozaukee are also on red alert for a possible flood.

On Monday, the authorities tried to restore the electricity supply to the houses that were disconnected due to the storm. However, about 2,000 of them still have not had access to it after the flood dismantled its connection. Obviously, this incident is not something that will ever leave the scarred minds of Milwaukee’s residents.

One of the incidents was reported where two friends got stuck in a huge puddle-like pothole in their car. Colby McMillan and a friend of his tried to cross a pothole, thinking it was a puddle filled with water. However, when they got stuck in it with water filling up inside their car, their first instinct was to get out of the car in time. They were safe and stopped other people from making the same mistake they made a while ago. Moreover, their vehicle was drenched beneath the pothole in the hurry to escape it for their lives.

Extent of damage caused by the rainfall

Milwaukee Flooding 2025 Jerrel Kruschke, the public works director, mentioned that the damage caused by the flood cannot be really determined until the floodwater is drained. However, many people have witnessed the damage in several regions of Milwaukee and reported it to the media. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers described the damage in the suburban Wauwatosa as observed on Monday. Similarly, in many regions, the area was fully submerged beneath water, including some vehicles. Some people saw that the two feet of water filled their basement, along with a prolonged power cut.

On the weekend, many events and championships were organized in Milwaukee, including the Wisconsin State Fair. Apart from this, on Saturday and Sunday, the USA Triathlon’s Spirit and Paratriathlon National Championships were organized, which had to be suspended.

Rainfall statistics that caused flooding in Milwaukee

Milwaukee Flooding 2025 is a city on the cross border of four rivers, which were affected by the violent two-day storm. In just 24 hours, the river water level exceeded the usual water level after a rainfall or storm in Milwaukee. The average water level of the river was 6.91 inches, which is the second-highest record after 7.18 inches in 2008, for two consecutive days. Moreover, for the first day, this average was calculated to be 5.74 inches, again the second-highest after the 6.81 inches in 1986.

The total rainfall in the two days was reported to be between 10 and 12 inches in Milwaukee’s various regions. Apart from that, the northwestern Milwaukee County experienced the highest rainfall of 14 inches, severely affecting the citizens. Thus, the four rivers: Kinnickinnic, Milwaukee, Menominee, and Root rivers were at their highest water level record on the weekend.

Many people, including children near the river basin, were rescued by the city team in a natural disaster. The firefighters, rescue squad, and the authorities were on full alert to help people requiring assistance of any kind. The citizens were only asked to follow the guidelines given by the authorities for their own safety.

Conclusion

Milwaukee has experienced a tough time over the weekend, which has not yet tamed completely. So far, nothing indicating another storm has been observed from Monday, but warnings have been issued for possible storms. Therefore, citizens should not loosen their strength and be prepared for any other storm in the city.
