$50K In The Bank As Conrad Tillard Seeks Retiring Vann’s Council Seat

[Race For City Council]

Rev. Conrad B. Tillard’s campaign for his bid for Brooklyn’s 36th District City Council seat has raised a total of $13,723, during this two-month filing period the campaign says. Public funds will match $5,945 of that amount through the campaign finance program at a six-to-one ratio.

The campaign completed its first filing with the New York City Campaign Finance Board on Wednesday, May 15th.  Rev. Tillard wants to succeed Al Vann, who is term-limited and retiring.  The 36th Council District includes most of Bedford-Stuyvesant and a portion of Crown Heights.

The Tillard committee’s current campaign budget is $49,393.

“I am very pleased with the dollars we have raised and, more importantly, the support we have received in the streets from my neighbors in the 36th Council District,” Tillard said. “This is a great first step. I am neither a politician nor a member of the political establishment. I am a community activist with roots, with a base of support, and with the will to win and serve as the next City Council representative from Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights.”

“We only launched this effort eight weeks ago.  But this campaign is positioning itself for a serious streetfight,” said Chris Owens, consultant to the Tillard campaign and President of Chris Owens & Associates.  “Conrad Tillard is an intelligent and charismatic candidate who is winning over voters every day.  The Tillard campaign will have the money we need to wage the campaign we need to win the City Council seat.”

Other candidates for the seat are: Robert E. Cornegy, Kirsten John Foy, Rev. Robert M. Waterman and Akiel Taylor.
