Gil Noble Lecture In Harlem

Gil Noble, host and producer of the award winning news show “Like It Is” will present a lecture on the current state of journalism at the Harlem School of Journalism, Saturday November 7, at 12 noon.

The Harlem School of Journalism meets at The Black River Dance Studio, 345 Malcolm X Boulevard, at 128th Street in Harlem, where Milton Allimadi teaches Guerrilla Journalism 101, a 10-week course of basic reporting and writing and media analyses and critique.

“We are happy that Gil Noble, who is a legend in media, will bless us with a visit Saturday,” Allimadi says. “He is a master interviewer as all fans of ‘Like It Is,’ know.”

The lecture is free and the public is invited.

Like It Is, is a weekly public affairs show which broadcasts on Sunday at 12PM on WABC Television. Noble joined the station as a reporter in 1967 and by 1968 had become an anchor.

Since 1986, Noble has focused exclusively on Like It Is.

His documentaries include works on Malcolm X, W. E. B. Du Bois, Fannie Lou Hamer, Ella Baker, Dr.  Martin Luther King Jr., Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Jack Johnson, Charlie Parker, and Paul Robeson, entitled "The Tallest Tree in Our Forest."

Although new classes begin on December 12, the public is welcome to sit in on the remaining four classes of the current semester.

Class meets every Saturday at 12 noon at  The Black River Dance Studio, 345 Malcolm X Boulevard, at 128th Street.

“I started Guerrilla Journalism 101 because I want to empower people in the community with basic journalistic skills so that we can create community reporters,” Allimadi says. “I ask people will other skills that can empower the community, including video reporting to step forward.”
