A day after President Yoweri Museveni asked the Police to examine whether the recent statements of MPs Reagan Okumu and Livingstone Okello-Okello were not potentially criminal, Acholi MPs have hit back, saying they will not be intimidated.

December 17, 2008 — The peace talks between the Lord’s Resistance Army, LRA, and the Uganda government is officially over. The ongoing attacks and aggression against the rebels launched by the Ugandan government hit the last nail on the coffin.
Since the LRA declared cessation of hostility and ceasefire two years ago, the people of northern Uganda have been enjoying peace and tranquility, a rare treat they have never had since 1986. But the current aggression towards the rebels by the Ugandan government is the biggest worry as people fear the rebels will recommit to war and try to revenge. If that happens, the suffering and deaths of people in northern Ugandan will continue or even worsen.
To understand the dynamics of this war, we need to know the background to it. This war that started way back in 1987, when Holy Spirit

Rwanda has been providing various forms of assistance to ethnic Tutsi rebels in Democratic Republic of Congo, a panel of UN experts said. The report here un-report-on-rwanda-support-of-nkunda said Rwandan authorities “have been complicit in the recruitment of soldiers, including children, have facilitated the supply of military equipment and have sent officers and units” from their national army to ethnic Tutsi rebels led by warlord Laurent NKunda in DRC.
It added that Nkunda loyalists “uses Rwandan territory as a rear base for fund-raising meetings and bank accounts.” The experts also cited evidence showing “extensive collaboration” between DRC government troops and Hutu rebels of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) as well as with Mai Mai tribal militia in the Congolese Resistance Patriots (Pareco) movement. US weapons should not end up in the hands of children, nor should US taxpayer dollars finance the exploitation of children in armed conflict.
(New York, December 11, 2008) – Under legislation adopted by the US Congress on December 10, 2008, governments involved in the use of children as soldiers may no longer be eligible for US military assistance, Human Rights Watch said today.
