Obama Ups Troops To Afghans But Announce PullOut Date
Obama said the United States could not allow the Taliban and its partner, Al-Qaeda, to overthrow the weak government of Hamid Karzai. He noted that while the Karzai government is hampered by corruption and the drug trade, the alternative, a Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, would... Full Story

Comment: If you do not start from the beggining, you are in denial. The United Nations gave Jews the country of Palestine. By what legitimate authority did the U.N. give Jews somebody else's country? If the U.N. can give a country to any group it wants, then why doesn't the U.N. give the U.S. to the Cherokee, the Algonquin, the Sioux, the Crow, the Blackfoot, the Seminole, etc?

Comment: The position of the president-elect shouldnot be a surprise. He failed the Sean Bell test after the courts acquitted the police who killed him because they thought he had a gun. His response to that injustice was worse than weak. Now he says nothing in the face of Zionist terror because they have muzzled their puppy. He will not say anything either concerning the occupation of Haiti and the kidnapping of president Aristide. Obama will only speak up for elite interests at home and abroad.

Comment: As an African, and part of the majority world that is dominated and exploited by the minority world, the emotional roller-coaster that I rode with the highs and lows of the Obama campaigns and eventual election are over. The tears I shed together with Rev. Jesse Jackson, was relief for the trauma of the long and unending journey for the black man for whom every milestone is a test for self-validation and eligibility for acceptance. It was never the thrills of finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. If Gaza is any indication, we are worshipping the wrong god; Charles Darwin and Hans Morgentheau are gods. That being the case, the next stage of the journey with Obama is for you Americans; we from the other world who must have no interests of our own and cannot lay legitimate claims to justice and human moral equality, we will beg to disengage."

Comment: Despite all the victories that President Elect Obama achieved, America knew that his greatest victories or defeats would be based on his position on the Arab-Isreal conflict. Obama stated that this was a new war in an old conflict. What kind of statement is that? That's like saying that the wars in Iraq was a new war in America's continued involvment in Middle Eastern conflicts. New battle, old war. It is no surprise that Obama would make superficial statements on such a profound conflict

Comment: What I have read makes me believe that the author presuppose many things: one of which is that Obama is in charge of peace between the Palestinians and Israel. But that is jumping headlong into a whirl storm. I think the editorial is not well researched or considered. Something are better be left alone until there is more preparation. That issue can derail all of US agenda. And we shall see no change in the nation.

[Black Star News Editorial]

More than 420 people have now died from the Israeli assault on Gaza, with continuous aerial bombardment attacks, according to media reports.

President Bush has already abdicated, having retired to Texas for what he loves doing best; barbecues.

This was the time for President Elect Barack Obama to make a strong statement. He has not said anything; he has failed his first test as incoming president abysmally.

It’s not enough for the incoming Administration to argue that George Bush is still president. Obama has made his preferences known over the last few weeks in terms of how to handle the financial meltdown. In fact, Bush officials have consulted with Obama’s incoming staff prior to any major decisions being made. Obama has made several statements on the economy, and has even already devised a $750 billion stimulus of his own, in addition to all the programs that have been announced by the Bush Administration.

Now when it comes to a vicious and disproportionate attack by Israel that has already claimed the lives of many children and women, the President Elect is not permitted to say a word because of some sort of protocol? What kind of nonsense is this?

Maybe Obama believes that Hamas will be weakened and the Palestinian authority under Mahmoud Abbas will become the main negotiating partner for a comprehensive
peace solution. We doubt that Hamas can be eliminated that simply; after all, the group did beat the Palestinian Authority in elections there.

And then, how would Obama be able to argue that his administration would be objective when brokering a Middle East peace deal?

Meanwhile, the Palestinians, who certainly cannot match Israel’s U.S.-supplied firepower continue to get pummeled, while the emasculated major countries like Egypt stand by and watch.

Gazans had already been suffering from an inhumane economic embargo that has threatened supplies of food and medicine in the region.

No one is arguing that Hamas wasn’t reckless and invited retaliation with its rocket attacks into Israel. Yet, the response has been way out of proportion and will only empower Hamas and its supporters in Syria and Iran, when video images of the deaths of hundreds of women and children are beamed around the world.

The inauguration is still more than two weeks away. Somehow, we don’t believe Obama can afford to remain mute until then.

The Gaza attacks, without consideration to the growing civilian deaths, using American weapons, also damages the U.S.'s global reputation.
